How to Play Woodfall
Woodfall is a free falling blocks puzzle you play in the browser. Wooden pieces drop into a 10-wide board; fill a row from edge to edge and it breaks away. Keep the stack low, chain your clears, and pick one of five modes.
The basic rules
- Pieces are the seven classic four-block shapes. A faint outline shows where the current piece will land.
- Fill every cell of a row to clear it. Clearing several rows with one piece scores much more than clearing them one at a time.
- The game ends when a new piece has no room to appear at the top.
- Pieces come in shuffled sets of seven, so you never wait long for any shape, including the long bar.
- When a piece touches down you still have a short moment (about 0.3 seconds) to slide or rotate it before it locks.

Cascade chains: what makes Woodfall different
In most falling blocks games, blocks left floating after a clear simply hang in the air. In Woodfall they fall. After every clear, each column settles on its own, and if that settling completes another row, it clears too. One well-placed piece can set off a chain of two, three or more clears.
That changes how you build. Leaving a few overhangs above a nearly full row is no longer a mistake: when the row below goes, the overhang drops in and may finish the next row for you.
Scoring
Each clear scores 100 × rows² × chain step. The square rewards clearing many rows at once, and the chain step rewards cascades: the first clear of a drop counts once, the cascade clear after it counts double, the next triple, and so on.
| Clear | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 row | 100 |
| 2 rows at once | 400 |
| 3 rows at once | 900 |
| 4 rows at once | 1,600 |
| 4 rows, then a 2-row cascade | 1,600 + 800 = 2,400 |

FAQ
Is Woodfall free?
Yes. There is nothing to buy, no account and no download. It runs in any modern browser on desktop, phone or tablet.
Does it save my scores?
Your best score for each mode, your fastest Sprint and your Stage progress are saved in your browser on this device. Clearing your browser data removes them.
Can I play offline?
Once the page has loaded, the game itself does not need the network, so a dropped connection mid-game will not stop you.
Is there a hold piece?
No. You see the next piece in the preview box, and planning around it is part of the challenge.
